As mentioned in the previous [article](/articles/2024-goals), one of our primary goals for this year is releasing our bundle system.
Today, we're proud to announce the beta release of the [bundle editor](https://smithed.dev/bundles/new/edit)!
The editor is primarily feature-complete, only missing the ability to put multiple contributors onto one project.
Here are some things that help set bundles apart from the rest:
## Patches
Patches serve as a form of internal datapack/resourcepack to bundles. They can overwrite files from the merged pack to solve incompatibilities, tweak functions, and much more. In the future, you can combine them with the exciting Weld plugins (Learn more in the Council Member channels) to generate content at download time.
## Support Pack Creators
Bundles on our platform are unique, and every bundle download directly contributes to the statistics of all the packs you include. This means a successful bundle will push its packs up, helping everyone involved gain visibility.
# How they work and EULA
We know many datapack creators are against the concept of "datapack-packs" due to bad actors on other platforms such as Planet Minecraft.
So we want to clarify how Weld handles the packs during the merge process; Weld sources all files directly from the developers' preferred download, meaning download counts on other platforms are still respected. Beyond patches, bundle creators cannot modify the source files and claim them to be their own.
Now, the problem of stealing credit is still on the table, and this is why we want to work with the community to create a EULA that protects the developers and allows us to take action against people breaking it.
Here are some ideas we have come up with:
- Smithed Bundles cannot be redistributed on other platforms.
- Bundles will have clear disclaimers that they were created on our platform.
- All packs will be credited within the datapack/resourcepacks.
This platform was created to improve the community, not to do harm against it; **until this problem is solved, we will not be adding a page to search for bundles outside of official ones.**
